See the Research Page HERE.

A tremendous amount of research was presented to the PUC during the hearings, located on their website Docket 4111 or regarding National Grid Decoupling Bill (S2841) on PUC Docket 4065. You may also see excerpts of this information on our PUC Data Page, other data on the Research Page, and highlights of the costs on our Charts Page.

The Deepwater Wind Project is a "demonstration" project that will build 8 wind turbines off the shores of Block Island and requires RI'ers to purchase energy at specified prices. The above market cost of this energy will be approximately $500,000.

As you can see by the chart on the left, the price of energy generation from Deepwater Wind does not come close to being reasonable or competitive when compared to historic or expert estimates.

According to these figures, RI ratepayers will spend an additional $390 million over the next 20 years to purchase energy from this project.

The proposal was rejected by the Public Utilities Commission (PUC). After the rejection, three bills were introduced to the General Assembly that bypass this decision.

On this site you will find links to research on this project, links to information presented to the PUC, links to info on Deepwater and parent companies, access to RI Votes that provides voting records on the Deepwater and companion bills (as well as all other bills), and a message board for you to ask questions and post information.

The RI Tea Party, the Ocean State Policy Research Institute, the RI Alliance for Clean Energy, and Operation Clean Government stood with several other taxpayer, tea party, and good government advocacy organizations speaking about the Deepwater Wind Project at a press conference on May 18, 2010 at the Rhode Island State House.
